The science
Meditation has one of the strongest evidence bases of any contemplative practice. The 2014 Goyal meta-analysis in JAMA Internal Medicine found that mindfulness meditation programs produce small to moderate improvements in anxiety, depression, and pain. Imaging studies have linked sustained practice with measurable changes in brain regions involved in attention, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. A simple, quiet timer supports the practice without adding friction or anxiety.
Research suggests that consistency matters more than session length. Ten to twenty minutes a day, sustained for several weeks, produces measurable cognitive and emotional benefits in most studies.
Tips for best results
- Pick a consistent time of day to anchor the practice (morning works for most people).
- Sit in the same place each session to build a strong environmental cue.
- If silence is hard, layer a quiet ambient sound from the soundscape mixer underneath.
- Keep the timer in another tab so the countdown does not pull your attention.
